Amherstburg Food & Fellowship Mission

Mission Statement
To relieve poverty in Amherstburg by providing free meals to those residents that may be economically disadvantaged and to promote the health of the community through fellowship to residents in need.
What We Do
Our Story
Amherstburg Food and Fellowship Mission began in 1994, when Andy and Pat Gervais noticed a gap while volunteering with Meals on Wheels. Although weekday meals were available, there was no support on weekends — and they quickly realized that many people were also missing something just as important as food: connection. From their own home kitchen, Andy and Pat began preparing and personally delivering hot meals every weekend, offering both nourishment and companionship to neighbours in need.
As awareness grew, so did the Mission. By 1996, meals were being served in the community at the Scout Hall, creating a shared space where people could gather, eat together, and feel welcomed. In 1999, the Mission was officially incorporated with a board of directors, and that same year, Tim McAllister assumed leadership of the Mission, bringing steady guidance and a deep commitment to its founding values.
A major milestone came on December 17, 2001, with the official opening of the Mission’s permanent home. This new space allowed the Mission to expand its services while preserving the warm, neighbourly spirit that had defined it from the very beginning.
From its humble beginnings at a kitchen table to the welcoming facility it is today, the Amherstburg Food and Fellowship Mission has remained rooted in compassion, dignity, and community. Through the dedication of long-serving leadership, volunteers, donors, and partners, the Mission continues to serve not just meals, but friendship, respect, and a sense of belonging to everyone who walks through its doors.
